67 Z drag car 144 miles
I could use some help and info on my 67 z that I purchased. This is the information that I have and if anyone has anything else I would appreciate it. My plans are to put the car back to what it looked like in 69 or 70. I would love to find some pictures of the car from indy in 1970 but have not been able to. The paint on the car is probably not salvageable and is from 1972 to 1974. The car was purchased by Joe Burden on June 29 of 67. It was never registered and was used as a drag car since day one. It was raced with its original small block up until he moved from Indiana to Fl sometime in the early 70’s. From what I know he put a BBC and ran the car in 1/8 mile down there until he parked the car in 1974 and hasn’t run since. The original motor was put in a circle track car and blown up. I would like to get in touch with the original owner but have not been able to locate him.
Race History 1970 March Bristol TN AHRA E.T. mile/ hr record 1970 June Warren Michigan NHRA E.T. record 11.07 at 127 mph 1970 Muncie Dragway Indiana 2 gold cup meets won both on Saturday and Sunday 1970 Indianapolis U.S nationals won a 14k bold cup with marble base. My plans are to put a period correct small block with a nash 5 speed in the car and make it a drag/ cruise night car. I want to paint the car back to its original red with the white stripes. I would like to bring it out to the supercar reunion next year and beat up on some of the fast Yenko’s with low 11 passes. |

Ted Harbit might remember the car, as Muncie is in his neighborhood I believe...and depending on what class it ran @ Indy, Barnhart would probably remember it as he was running there.

[/ QUOTE ] LOL...I kinda figured he did, as racers never tip their hand...but providing a winter's worth of motivation sometimes ain't the smartest move either! |

Re: 67 Z drag car 144 miles
I got an NHRA yearbook a while back, that has race winners & event info in it...seems like it was from '55-'70 or thereabouts. I'll try and remember and take a look when I'm back by the shop this evening...

I would contact Jerry MacNeish at Camaro High Performance in Maryland. He does the 67 Z/28 Registery. Maybe the Wenzel Bros. from Michigan area may remember the car. They still run their 1967 Z/28 in NHRA D/S.
