The car will be for sale after I spend some time cleaning it up and seeing what kind of shape it's in mechanically.

Hopefully you will be able to locate the build sheet. Without that, it will be difficult to verify this as a real Heavy Chevy. The VIN and style number (13437) on the cowl tag obviously verify it as a base model Chevelle. The domed hood, sport steering wheel, 14x6 rally wheels with no trim rings, blacked-out grille, and stripes that made the package are the visual clues that help (if they were still on the car), but obviously could have been added at any point. Good luck!

After you have looked every where inside the car for the Build Sheet....then go ahead and drop the gas tank.
I have a good feeling that you will be successful with this Chevelle

Good Luck,

Dan

Thanks for the shout-out Dan. Always fun to be here.

On a different note, I'll be making my way to MCACN for the first time this year. I think I saw you on a couple youtube videos, so if I recognize you there I'll stop and say Hi.

The Heavy Chevy for 1972 had a unique VIN # that starts with 1C37. No other Chevelle used this number so there is no doubt this is a HC.

Sorry, but this is incorrect. 1C37 designates base model Chevelle, but it does not by itself designate a Heavy Chevy. It is true that every Heavy Chevy in 1972 will have a VIN that begins with 1C37, but so do all the base model Chevelle coupes in 1972. So the VIN by itself in 1972 will not verify that it is a Heavy Chevy.

This has been discussed at length at Team Chevelle, and Dale McIntosh has the VIN breakdowns of all models at his site.

http://chevellestuff.net/1972/vin.htm

And here is 1972 Heavy Chevy specific info:

http://macswebs.com/yf3registry/tech/72/72guide.htm

And a direct quote from the site:

" Just the fact you have a 1C37 Chevelle Sport Coupe does not automatically make it a Heavy Chevy anymore that the fact you have a 13637 Malibu Sport Coupe make it a Z15 SS-optioned Malibu."
