My father was a door gunner on a Huey in 1966-67. He sent back quite a bit of footage of jets dropping napalm and other footage from the chopper. He was stationed at Bien Hoa.
Long story about how he became a door gunner to start and how he got himself in a bad situation a night or two that ending up being the result of being awarded the Bronze Star.
Keith your story sounds like my dad.

If Washington would have left the war up to the Generals -- it is estimated it would have been over in two months ... they would start with bombing Hanoi, and I mean all of Hanoi ... mining the harbor ... etc. etc.

You might appreciate (“enjoy” is probably not the right word) a new book by my brother in law Doug Stanton: “The Odyssey of Echo Company”, which is about the 101st Airborne during the Tet Offensive.

Doug’s books are not an easy read but I believe they are usually pretty cathartic for those who were there.

Best wishes –

Just finished Horse Soldiers and saw the movie today. I live in Traverse City and have met and talked to Doug a couple times. Nice guy and interesting to talk to. I've been meaning to pick up the new book, thanks for the prompt.
