 The first NASCAR Stock Car to average 200 MPH. This of course led to the end of the "Winged Warriors" and purpose built "Stock Cars" like the Torino Talledaga and the Mercury Spoiler II. Goodyear was VERY worried because their NASCAR tires were rated for 200 MPH and the cars were exceeding this speed by a very healthy amount on the straightaways.

 What happened to prices on the 55 - 57 Thunderbirds? I remember these cars were $75,000 all day long and if it was a Minter restoration, the prices went well over $100,000. Now - they can't even break the $50,000 mark. Only the Supercharged "F" Birds get any real money.

  Ford had a banner sales year for 1959. They sold over 1.4 million cars. 1960's styling was supposed to be a warmed over version of the 1959 models. Then Ford, through their spies, got wind that Chevrolet was planning a total restyle of their full size car. It was to have "Bat Wings" in the rear. So as not to be left behind, Ford came out with the "Quicksilver" platform for all it's big cars - a radical change from 1959's styling and something close to Chevrolet's rear styling but not as pronounced. And Ford did something on the QT: Quote:
