Chassis paint?

Rehabbing the frame for my 70 LT-1. Got it stripped bare.

Was getting ready to order some Bill Hirsch Chassis Black paint, but it appears all they have is rattle cans. I know I bought a quart (still have some) a few years back. I prefer to use a gun.

What are guys using?

Car isn't going to be judged. Going very lightly day two with Koni shocks and the uber cool Kustom headers and side pipes I bought from Tony.

But I still want the basics pretty correct.

You'll get many answers on this, but for me I went basic with SPI epoxy primer top coated with a flattened Delfleet Essential black urethane. Sounds like a great car. The red Koni's are definitely cool.

I use the black SPI epoxy as well, but don't top coat it. The sheen is very near factory by itself and the paint is very hard and resistant to chipping. It is also UV resistant and on a chassis isn't going to see much daylight. I had 2 frames powdered and won't anymore. Once they get a chip, the rust grows and crawls along under the powder like a mole.

Sounds like a winner. I know the PPG epoxy primer has not uv protection. Did not know that the SPI did.

Is there any recommendations for body on and brush on paint/coatings?

SPI can be applied with a brush. It isn't a thin, watery paint, like bc/cc. It has a 72 hour pot life when kept in a closed container too. You will need a respirator to apply, NOT just a dust mask.

Otherwise Rustoleum has a decent semi-gloss black brush paint too.

People should use SPI Epoxy bought directly from SPI (you must call them)
Shipped to your door for Significantly less than the major name brands....
70% of their business is restoration....Mfg in Georgia...........
Mixed 1:1 with activator I buy in qts as the activator shelf life is short after
the can is open......(versus opening a gallon)
