Default KNAFEL 427 ACADIAN

Does anyone, have info on 1967 427 Canadian Pontiac Acadian, that Larry Doc Dixon ran in B/mod for KNAFEL? Was it a COPO car? and why was a Ohio dealer, running a Canadian car? I have a picture of it.. It was called TIN INDIAN...

You may want to ask the question over on the V8Buick website. John and Paul Glasgo are VERY knowledgeable about the Knafel cars.

I've looked for info on the Knafel Acadian before too and come up w/ little so please share anything you can..
Sure love to see the pic you've mentioned too!.

Also love to see/know more on your L72 Strato Chief.. Being a Canadian Poncho fan I've come across your name and car pics before (it's a white car?) also mentioned your car in a thread here a year or so back...I think a mod here maybe noted you were having trouble accessing the site?.
And is it you that has a RWD Sunbird or Cavalier?.

Happy Holidays!

hhhh baby...it's a post car too!!!

Looks like a '67 Mopar scoop...cool '65 wagoon in the opposite lane too!.

Having and running the Vin of that Acadian through GM Canada Vintage Services would sure answer a few questions...probably raise a few more too!.

No it's not a COPO car. The Knafel Acadian ran in the NASCAR Ultra/Stock drag racing class where the rules stated that the car and engine had to be of the same make. Knafel decided to go with the Canadian Acadian so they could run a very competitive 427 engine and still be considered a Pontiac. Because the Acadian used a Chevy drivetrain, this was considered legal by NASCAR. I don't believe NHRA ever did recognize any of the Canadian Pontiacs. The photo below is from a 1967 points meet at Suffolk Raceway and the Chevy wagon in the far lane is Ted Hartman's "Bad Banana".

Has anyone tried contacting Arlene Vanke for Info? He was associated with Knafel for quite a while before going with Chrysler. Both from the Akron, OH area.
