2 dead after vehicle crashes into Rainbow Bridge checkpoint and explodes at U.S.-Canada border in Niagara Falls

Quote:
The FBI is investigating a vehicle explosion Wednesday at the border crossing between Canada and the United States after a vehicle crashed into the checkpoint structure at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, four senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter said.

There were two occupants in the vehicle that crashed and both are dead, according to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter.

A Customs and Border Protection officer also suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, a senior law enforcement official said.

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the structure, caught fire and exploded. An initial search did not find a secondary explosive or device, the law enforcement officials said, noting this was preliminary information.

Authorities are investigating whether the crash was intentional.

All western New York bridge crossings into the U.S. were shut down following the incident, the Erie County executive said. The vehicle was headed into the U.S., the Erie County Sheriff’s Office said.

Very sad. Sounds similar to the problem of "unintended acceleration" or floor mat interference. Or maybe just mistaking hitting the accel instead of braking. I'm just supposing.

NOT a terror attack. My bet is on medical emergency at the wheel, heart attack or stroke...foot goes to the floor. Sad story. But not terrorism

It was crazy seeing the car fly through some of the videos I have seen. Lucky more people were not hurt

Apparently it was a Bentley and there's nothing left but the engine. The rest of the car was basically incinerated.

There were reports of a car (not sure if it’s that one) circling and arguing right at the time this happened.

Years ago in my town a mom w her two kids in the car punched it down a long straight road well into the 100s of MPHs never turned the wheel in the corner launched off the side of the rd and off a cliff w about 80 ft drop somehow they determined it was intentional. (Post pardom depression or something)

About 20 years before that, in a similar area there was a spot people would go 4 wheeling. And it was common to just drive off the rd up a hill and into this big field attached to a sand pit and trails to go jeeping cj5s and blazers pick ups etc . Well the company had strip mined it almost to the edge of that hill, and some people who hadn’t been there in a while ripped off the rd up the hill at full speed in a CJ5 and off the top to a 40 ft drop. Of course all died in both cases.

This crash kind of reminded me of those two .

Articles say the couple had traveled there for a concert that got cancelled, went to a casino instead.

I'm just speculating, but I lean torwards a health issue.
