1969 Camaro and Nova power steering pumps were not the same-Novas did not have variable-ratio steering.
“The pump used on vehicles with variable ratio power steering provides increased fluid flow at higher pressure than the conventional pump. Consequently, the conventional pump and the pump used with the variable ratio system are not interchangeable. A new pump outlet hose is required on variable ratio power steering equipped cars.” -1969 New Product Training Program Booklet

Is there a physical feature that would distinguish a NON variable pump ? This may be part of the issue with the power T-bird rack on my '38. All I have to do is think about moving over, or sneeze, and I change lanes. Very touchy.
