Default '69 Mach 1 "Factory Experimental Race Car"

Interesting story - it's definitely worth digging into the history when you have a car invoiced to the Ford Marketing division, and delivered to Research.

Not much but some speculation.
Shipped to "Service Research Center". That's the corner of Rotunda and Oakwood - I don't know what they used the building for back then, but it could simply be a serviceability study car.
A 351 4V would not be a hi-po and a strange base for a race car, with an 8-track.

I would think the owner/someone would have checked to see if the car is in the Marti Reports.......

Auction ended w/ bidding @ 17,600 this time but no relisting as of yet?
Sounds like they dug up some history including Roush Racing, pretty cool for a Mustang and love to hear more if it surfaces again.

This is not your ordinary 351W 4V 4 spd shaker royal maroon mach, sold to ford marketing and shipped to the ford research center. This car was a experimental drag race car, and was supposed to be destroyed afterwards. The tax exempt status on the factory invoice with federal and tire taxes waived, this car could not be sold, it was supposed to be scrapped, it shouldn't exist, but after hiding for 50 years here it is. It was hidden but not necessarily preserved. The 351W was rumored to have been played with by Roush and Gapp until the 351 clevelands came out. I found on you tube a old movie camera video "Detroit Dragway Nationals 197?" at the 2:58 mark a 69 royal maroon mach with rear spoiler and louvers racing in Detroit, this car has spoiler and louver holes. Check out the video.

This car is still original paint. 5 leaf springs on drivers side, 6 on the pass, individual air shock inlets in each trunk floor for each shock. I had the heads machined for screw in studs and found someone had drill the rocker stud bosses and stuck in roll pins then covered them up. The heads also had port work. The block is fresh 30 over, new pistons in the box. Correct motor but not #'s matching, experimental race car, it got played with. The NOS sheet metal that came with the car is old N.O.S. brown primer with yellow paint stencil numbers. The 69 351W shaker is the rarest of all shakers, C9OX experimental ford aluminum intake with NOS carb. Seats with no rips, rimblow with no cracks. I got car with clean Michigan title and now is a clean Illinois title in my name. Many more parts not in pictures. Study picts and ford factory invoice. thanks
U.S. buyers only please, I reserve the right to end the auction early because is is also listed locally.
The car will not be released until the funds clear my bank.

On Jul-21-20 at 06:59:24 PDT, seller added the following information:
6/21/2020, since the listing started, I have been contacted from people and previous owners with more Ford and Roush history of this car. Thanks

On Jul-21-20 at 11:54:43 PDT, seller added the following information:
I now know that the person that ended up with the car after its race days was the head engine builder for Roush. The next owner bought it from his estate sale. The next owner acquired it in 2002, the car never left Michigan until I bought it in 2018.

On Jul-25-20 at 09:22:01 PDT, seller added the following information:
Block date: 8M19, heads 9A6 and 8K3, exhuast man 8J23 and 8K5, dist 9B, yes it was a race car and it was played with, not original motor but all correct parts, thanks.
