Default 1971 El Camino questions

Guys looking at a 1971 El Camino. Guy claims it's an original 454 car. Is there anyway to verify this? It's NOT a Canadian car so that option is out. Just like to know if it is a 1971 SS 454 car, or what it really is.

Thanks John

Will have specific axle codes with the 454, by memory I believe they would be either RVC or RWC.

As well as what Paul & Tony asked, read this too as it answers a lot of 1971 ElCamino Super Sport questions in general. https://www.elcaminocentral.com/thre...s-an-ss.24453/

For starters, look for a big block steering shaft. Any pics of the car or trim tag you can share with us?

John being that you were/are a TC member Im sure you are aware of all the common BB identifiers. Also with this being a 71 its probably the hardest to verify, I would be looking t the deck and stamp very closely. Secondly with luck if it happens to be a TH400 - check that stamp and trans tag. Hopefully the asking price matches the documentation.

Thanks guys. The El Co is a little over 2 hrs drive from me and only seen it online at this point, as I'm in Pigeon Forge on vacation for couple more days.

I like it from what I seen online but will go actually look at it after I return. Just looking to see if there is a way to tell. Guys "thinks" it's original with original drivetrain.

Dustin, I got booted off TC years ago for proving there paid vender, Chris Straub, wrong over and over again. So I was booted to keep him happy. The moderator told me that when he let me back on to get my pms off there.

Thanks for the help and please keep the info coming.

John

Focus on the emblems for starters...most guys faking an SS 454 have grave difficulty properly locating the 454 emblems on the fenders (because only the 454 got emblems) as well as the tailgate emblems being centered and spaced properly.

As others have mention:
-Trim Tag...VIN must be a 13681xxxxxxx
-RV C 12 bolt
-Disk Brakes
-F60x15 tire sticker (if it still has one)
-Radiator size (3 or 4 row depending on AC)

Thanks, what about tach yellow/redlines? From what I can see yellow line statts about 46/4700 and red around 5000 rpms. I'm at least 10 days away from inperson inspection.

And I think I just got in with the winning bid on a guys estate. That 4 older cars and a 1985 ram 150 long box. Looks like I have a 1978 Z28, 1971 Tubbed Nova SS, 1969 firebird that was tubbed and not finished and a 1958 Apache pick up.

Now finding spots to have these is the question? I have space for 6 and I already have 5 cars.......
