Default Help Identifying Firebird Rear

I looked at this rear in my friends shop yesterday, it has dual traction bars, everything looks correct & not a made up rear, it is a 10-bolt. We assume it is from a Firebird.

That's a '67 Firebird rear end. They used the Tempest housing with leaf spring perches. That's why it has the eyes cast into the top for the A body upper control arms. It should also be 1 inch wider than a Camaro rear end. The 1st gen Camaro rear end is 60 inches and this one shoudl be 61 inches.

Anyone know what they are worth or if they are desirable?

They work pretty well. They are a little stronger than the Chevy 8.2 10 bolt. After market parts are limited, but you can build a pretty good one. The Borg Warner differential that was offered in them was better than most of the after market stuff. I've reconditioned a few of them to make them almost new again.

Should also check the casting number on the back and look for a big N casted on the top front by the yoke to identify it as a nodular unit which makes it a little more valuable

Thanks for the info gentleman, much appreciated. My friend is wanting to sell it but has no idea of value, the next time I go there, I will take a better look.

Head over to the Pontiac Forums (http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums) with this and you should be able to get all the info. You need as well as arrange for it to change hands pretty quickly if that is what he wants to do.

Thanks again gentleman. Here are some updated pics. Casting # 9783393, it is hard to read the date, but has 3.08 original dated gears 1/67. The rear is definitely for sale, I am 20 minutes from Carlisle, PA, so I can deliver it to any of the upcoming Show's, Spring Carlisle is April 21-25.

Anyone have any idea of value?

I have all the rear codes for the first gen rears, is there something stamped in the tube by one of the ends? Should be a 2 digit code on the left tube

Pic is of the ‘67 rears
