Do 1970 chevelle 396 350 cars have any value to collectors
Just wondering if a 70 396 chevelle has a collectible market if it is a true low Milage unrestored survivor. Coupe not convertible. Always looking for a ls6 car but can not find a true survivor but sometimes come across a true 396 survivor. Wondering a fair market price for these types of cars. Just a generalization and thoughts. Thanks.

If you are referring to the Best 1970 SS396 Survivor Chevelle in the World....owned by Dave Gilsmer....YES, cars as this are truly collectible.....and will only appreciate with time.

Was at a car show on Saturday and saw this very cool one owner 70 Chevelle SS 396/350 horse Turbo 400 column shift car in Autumn Gold. Car was mostly all original paint. Bought new at Jack Sommer Chevrolet in Wadsworth, Ohio. Original trunk spatter paint. The owner stated he spray bombed the engine and removed the heads to have them re done. He also installed an Edelbrock intake and removed the original low rise. I think there was some type of chalk marking in the picture on the firewall near the wiring gutter. "DL" was yellow ink stamped on the steering gear box. Also shows the original trunk weatherstripping color bands.. Cool Car..

I saw a '70 SS rear sticking out of an open garage here this spring,on my way to a local car cruise.70 year old man came walking out and told me how he acquired it in 1983 and how he wants to fix it up slowly & carefully some day.It wasn't great, but not 3/4's as bad as so many today.
He told me it was 454..asked if it was an LS-6? We removed all the blankets & crap piled up on it,walked around & opened the hood, and it is...headers & all. In no way am I a buyer of it,and he has no plans to sell it.But when he dies, his kids have already bookmarked instructions of how to take it to a B-J or a Mecum auction etc. I drove by again last month and he waived to me as I drove by.He said if he did have to sell it,it would kill him.Said he is blown away by the prices these are bringing @ auctions. I took pictures, but he asked I not share them,as he says people today can decipher too much from a photo and he doesn't need that contact aggravation.I don't know if this is an indication, but based on our conversation,he hypothetically referenced $100K often. |

In My Opinion for the 1970 Chevelle SS, today they are all collectable regardless of motor combination as the 70 Chevelle SS is one of the most demanded car in the muscle car industry.
They are getting extremely tough to find in good Quality Original Condition. Yes there are a ton of 396/350 HP L34 cars out there but a lot of them are far from quality original cars. Survivors or very correct 70 SS's now demand a premium no matter what the motor is under the hood. On average you will be looking at many cars before a good one comes up and these cars will only climb in value for the future including the 396/350 HP L34 cars. Believe me they are extremely difficult to find with everything intact. Just my 2 cents.

I would say its hard to say what its value would be, without knowing color, 4spd or not, a look at the paperwork to go with the survivor status.
If its a 4 spd and a cool color, I dont see how you could go wrong in the long term. What little I know about chevelles from friends, it sounds like values have gone down recently, and I always heard there are a lot of fakes out there, that in turned hurt the whole 70 chevelle market. A survivor can rise above all this. I myself passed on a 70 396/350 4 spd car ($8K basket case: clean shell, solid floor, clean frame, correct non original engine, no interior, with build sheet) that was made in plum crazy purple at the factory. Everyone told me I would be upside down on the car, so it got sold to a restoration shop a few months back, after I said nope to a friend. I think I would be into it for an easy $50K or more at the end of the day, non original motor, driver quality restoration that you could have fun with. But man, my daughter would have loved that car when done (even I). So there is a data point for you to consider. I passed on a restored 396 350 car for $50-60K with a lot of restoration stress. But again, I was into this car because of the rare color (and I am more of a mopar guy). Last edited by black69; 08-29-2017 at 03:13 PM. |

Not a 396 and not a survivor but a good LS6 did not sell at Russo and Steele Monterey. They still have it listed for sale.
https://bidlive.russoandsteele.com/l...elle-ls6-coupe Decent car. I met the owner the week before in Reno. Little stuff wrong but looked like a good car overall, bench cloth, 4 speed.
