Chuck Sharin bought the #27 ZL1 Drag Racer from Dick Tutino around 1975
Chuck Sharin contracted with Thayne Porlier to install a Roll Cage, Rear Wheel Tubs and Narrowed Differential with the understanding the STOCK OE Floor, Trunk be kept ala NHRA Modified Elim Rules. Porlier removed the STOCK Pass Floor & Trunk when he installed the new frame from Subframe to rear valance.
Chuck Sharin sued & won the law suit with Porlier....then parted out everything............
yada, yada, yada

I've written B/J and informed them that their web site description does not represent the FACT that the ONLY ORIGINAL #27 item on the entire car is the VIN Tag.........

I'm evidently TOO STUPID to resize a 2018 photo of my old Drag Car that was built from
a Junk Yard Body and ALL the misc #27 Body Panels I saved after parting out the #27 ZL-1. This race car is still in WA state...but the #27 VIN tag is in Scottsdale,AZ at B/J 2019
It will be very interesting to see what happens next week Chuck. Unfortunately some see these cars as a business and nothing more and look for these opportunities to try to make a quick buck. It is a sad part of our hobby but non the less these crimes are happening all the time especially on the rare and desirable cars. Thank god that you were able to set the story straight and prevent some other stary eyed dreamer (buyer beware) from getting fleeced. I guess that value is in the eye of the beholder and next week we will see if the the legend over shadows the truth. Either way I am glad you chimed in and gave us a glimpse of the real story of a controversial and historic car, be it was is left or what it was. I am sure that many of us will be looking on with great anticipation, and while this car may not be the most valuable 1969 ZL1 it is certainly one of the most talked about

CHUCK, If the original still has the original hidden Vin#'s. I would find that car and restore it and sue to get the original dash vin# back.

That is dirty pool. Chuck owned both cars and he is the one who transferred the VIN from one car to the other and sold the car with the VIN attached to the next guy. Finding the shell and trying to take ownership of the both cars is as slippery as selling the reVINed car as legit. Getting the two cars back together and making things right it one thing but owning one and trying to rob the other is another story.

Here's a link to the auction next Saturday night of the car in question for those interested. Looks like they gave it a prime time spot.

#27 has been a known re-body for over a decade. Neither Mecum, nor BJ have tried to hide that. If you couldn't figure out from the Mecum description what "found another body in a junkyard and pieced the racecar back together again" means then you deserve to get fleeced. This story is not news.

Super Chevy Pomona, around 1997, I'm pretty sure it's the same car Reg J had Chip selling for $75k. I remember it being green, column shift. He also had a grn Copo 4sp for $25k.

I was simply stating what could easily happen. That is why i would not touch that car with a 10ft pole. You have no protection from that happening. The original body should have been taken to the crusher. Any law enforcement will look at the hidden vins, who do you think is going to get the Vin tag.
