Default 1970 nova suspension option?

Did the 1970 nova have any suspension option that used a rear sway bar?.....with power drum brakes on the front?
....I thought if it had the power booster...it would have had front disc brakes....

John, the F41 suspension option included a rear sway bar, but this didn't come out until spring of 1970. The actual part is kind of weird looking....small diameter bar...looks like a clothesline to me. As for the booster I believe power assist was an option with the drum brakes. Power disc was std. on the SS models and was also available with reguar models. I will double check my Nova literature to be sure.

How ya doing?? tw

The F41 option in '70 gave the Nova a rear sway bar setup, and according to the option list was only available when the SS option was also ordered. I believe the SS option required power front disc brakes, so in theory you could have an SS without F41, but not an F41 without the SS - disc brakes (unless it was a COPO Nova). Look under the rear of the car, above the muffler, to see if the factory floor braces are welded into the floor/frame rails. The rear bars can be added, but they rarely have the original floor braces installed - they usually attach the 'hanger' bars to the frame rails instead.

I've noticed in the early released Chevrolet price books,ordering guides and catalogs,they stipulate that when the 1970 basic RPO Z-26 SS Nova was ordered with the standard 350/300HP engine,the F-41 performance suspension was NOT included or available,and of course neither was the F-40 suspension.
But at the same time,when you upgraded that same dog tracker with either the L-34 402/350HP,or L-78 402/375HP engines,you now automatically received the F-41 performance suspension package too.
Later dated materials reflect that the F-41 performance suspension is now standard on ANY 1970 Nova Super Sport,regardless of engine installed.
Has anyone seen physical evidence that reflects this on the earlier built Super Sport Novas?

Not to my knowledge. We feel that the F41 became available on non-SS Novas in '71 - but was specific to the SS models for '70.

John, what's the particulars on the nova? Is it an SS, 12 bolt, trans?
Back then people pulled trailers, and boats with their cars. That was before trucks became popular. Lotta big buicks with 6 lug wheels pulled Airstream trailers. I wonder if this was something that was special ordered for trailer handling, rather than performance.

Good Point.
Is there any evidence of a trailer ball hitch attachment at one time?

...Okay guys....I got it home...I will be taking some photos tomorrow....Here is what I got..
...1970 Nova, built 350 motor, aftermarket aluminum intake, POWER ASSISTED FRONT DRUM BRAKES, 350 emblems on the fenders, "11427" on the cowl tag, FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS,
..15X7 RALLYS, 10 bolt rear, bench seat, auto. on column,
..get this....FATHOM BLUE...WITH BLACK VINYL TOP...
...built 6/70 ...I will get cowl tag info an photos tomorrow
....
..the one question I have ...are ALL 1970 nova's with "11427" on the cowl tag "SS" models?...or does that mean it came with a V8?
....Oh, it has power steering and factory a/c too...
...

1= Chevrolet
14=Nova, V8
27=2 door coupe

The only way to verify SS is if you have build sheet with ss code or if engine #'s match vin. Certain engine options required ss package.
