Can the glass be removed for replacement?

You will most likley have to brake it to get it out, try some heat.
I was thinking of doing it too, Heartbeat has dated glass now.
I would guess you will silicone the new one in.

If I broke it to get it out how hard is the new one to get in?

Break it, install it, and then un-break it.

Did the 69 Nova not have the same rubber molding holding the mirror in, as the 69 Camaro? If so, it's fairly easy to remove, and replace. I soaked mine in some hot water to soften it.

Hello,

If it is original there is a flat metal snap ring holding the glass in. It can be taken out with care. It there is no snap ring then it is later GM or Repro.

I do not think the Camaro mirror ever had the retaining ring like the round Nova mirror's..

I think the snap rings were used in the sideview mirrors as opposed to the rear view mirrors?

Yes, they were used in the "Round" sideview mirrors, production and old NOS.
But has anyone seen them on a 69 Camaro "Rectangular" mirror, my guess is not.

My interior rear view mirror has " Made in USA" on the bottom and "Guide Glare-Proof" on the top. There is no date on the mirror. There is some slight damage to the backing of the mirror and I need to replace it. Is this a repo or an original without a date code on the mirror? Looks like a challenge to replace the mirror without breakage

1969L78Nova,

If you set the inside custom mirror in the sun you can use a piece plastic the size of a flat blade screw driver to gently pry back the plastic to remove the glass. Pay attention to the way it comes out. The glass is wedge shaped. Then take the glass to most glass shops which can re silver the back of the mirror.

I have yet to get my hands on the standard mirror to see how it goes together.
