I invited him up to visit, drive some cars (especially the orange one) and he's bringing me a present He is as excited about finding the car, as I am about completing the history puzzle. These cars have a story to tell, and Paul sharing its history and gaining a new found friend.... well it doesn't get any better. Paul is a true muscle car enthusiast, and has the same passion as we all do. The original owner Bill lived in Turnersville, NJ, so that's my next search.

Default What was your 1st car?

Just amazing how everything came together for you Steve also great example of what may still be out there waiting for someone's time/effort spent backtracking.
Awesome you get a new friend out of the deal plus especially cool how Paul's a real car guy who was actively looking for the car!

Love reading these stories and seeing the pics. Now I get to share my son's first car. We spent 18 months looking for the right Chevelle, but the prices just wouldn't let the math work. Instead he "settled" for a 1968 Corvette Convertible.

It's a two owner car, with the second owner purchasing the car in 1973. Born with L79, M20 with 3.23 posi. Corvette Bronze paint. Car has been off the road for 10 years, so all of the major systems require refurbishing, but we have until the end of the summer, before he wants it for homecoming.

We started simple disassembly and are having a great time digging through all the numbers. After we pulled the fule tank, we recovered the tank sticker. Talk about a pretty excited kid!

We'll keep sharing as we get further along.

Being as you're up in Cheeseland and all the salt used on the roads -- check the frame just in front of the rear wheel for damage ... TAZ

PS -- looks like it is all there ... now comes the fun part!!!

Taz,

Thanks for the suggestion. The car actually came out of central Michigan (not mush better than WI), but spent a large chunk of it's life in Texas and Georgia. Frame has scale, but no real rot, and the birdcage is perfect.

We just got lucky that the daughter wasn't mechanically ready for the work it needs and that she didn't mess with too much of the car.

You're spot on with the fun part. Son is out in the shop toady tearing out carpet (inservice day at school).

That is one very, very lucky young man -- first car ... a 68' Corvette. I was 21 before I got my first one -- a 63' black w/red guts rag top (actually we had both tops) ... 327 w/4 gear ... TAZ
