Default Top Gun Maverick

So, I was a big fan of the first movie as it came out when I was 20 and I loved the entire experience and couldn't wait for a sequel. I couldn't believe they waited 35 years for the next one, but we saw it on Friday and after all these years I prepped myself to be disappointed as I just wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say that they did a great job on a new story with solid tie ins from the past, new characters, and Tom Cruise being an older and more contemplative character himself. Great movie for the whole family.

Awesome, good to hear. Actually, haven’t heard much bad about it.

Stoked to go see it myself. Thanks for sharing.

I also had my expectations in the tank on this one. Lots of cliche in the first few minutes, then it got real.....a movie that lifts you up for days.

Add me to the list of sceptics and expecting the worst. I went Monday night and was pleasantly surprised as I was expecting the majority of the action scenes to be all computer generated. Some were but many were very real. It was not as good as the original but I was certainly not disappointed. It did follow similar story lines but they were changed just enough to make it feel like a different movie. There were several times where the entire audience applauded to a particular scene which I do not recall that happening in the original. Very good movie.

Add me to the list - we went not expecting it to be as good as it was. We really enjoyed it. Not as "believable" as the original but very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. We liked all of the tie-ins and references to the original movie. First time to the movies for me in 4-5 years probably.

Tom Cruise being ageless, but how many cast members from the original are in it today?
Are Meg Ryan & Kelly McGillis in it?

There has been a lot of internet discussion about Kelly McGillis not returning in her role.

Kelly McGillis said herself, that she's too old and fat to be in it, and that it's not what people want to see. She also said, however, that she's happy where she is in life and happy to be aged appropriately. Meg Ryan isn't in it either. I read that they wanted a new story without a lot of the prior actors. The only ones in it from the first are Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, but they did mention Penny Benjamin in the first one who is now played by Jennifer Connelly, who looks perfectly her age in relation to Tom Cruise.
It's not perfect, but it's a good movie. And I'm sure the pilots and war plane experts could tear it apart, but for the general public, it's good stuff.

There is also a funny bit with Tom Cruise and James Corden that was on Corden's show that you might want to see. I thought it was really funny:

Thanks,so "Iceman" is in it,but not "slider"? Rick Rossovich looks like he could still play the part today.

VK, Iceman, is in it, and his part is the most moving part of the movie. No one else.
