Steve Shauger's (Paceme) Trifecta is complete!
I really want to thank Steve for submitting yet another WAY cool Member's Ride....Bruce
1969 RS/SS L78 Convertible- TRIFECTA VIN124679N664900 This car was purchased at City Motor Co. located in Great Falls, Montana. The original owner, James Lewis took delivery on 7/21/69. James sold the car to D. Decker in Jackson Wyoming who eventually advertised the car for sale in Hemmings Motor News June,1986 George Oleskiewiczs is the third known owner and as mentioned, found the car listed in the June of 1986 Hemmings Motor News. George immediately contacted the seller, but the owner changed his mind and decided not to sell. George was persistent and was finally able to purchase the car August 8, 1988. It sat in storage for 18 years and was never driven as he collected a treasure trove of as many NOS parts as possible. The car is highly optioned and most likely one of one built as optioned. This 1969 RS-SS 396/375 hp 4-speed with 4:10 rear axle convertible is optioned as follows: 5A01AA- Soft-Ray Tinted Glass 5B37BA- Floor Mats -2Front & 2 Rear 5D55NA- Center Console 5D80AA- Air Spoiler Equipment 5G80LA- Positraction Axle 5G84AA- Rear Axle 4:10 Ratio 5K05BA- Engine Block Heater 5L78AA- 375-HP Turbo-Jet 396 V8 5M22AG- Special 4Speed Transmission 5N34CB- Sport-Style Steering Wheel 5N40LA- Power Steering 5PL5AD- F70x14 White Letter Tires 5U15AE- Speed Warning Indicator U17GA- Special Instrumentation 5U57AD- Stereo Tape System 5U69AE- AM-FM Pushbutton Radio 5VE3AA- Special Front Bumper 5V32- Rear Bumper Guards 5ZK3AH- Deluxe Seat Belts 5ZL2AA- Special Ducted Hood 5ZJ7AH- Rally Wheels 5ZJ9CA- Auxiliary Lighting 5Z22NH- Rally Sport Equipment 5Z27AA- Camaro SS Equipment 5Z87KG- Custom Interior 5712AA- Black Vinyl Trim 5893AA- Door Edge Guards 1001AA- 10-10 Tuxedo Black The car was rust free when George found it. It has the original drive train. The original owner's manual and protect-o-plate were included with the car. Through the years many cars came and went, but George knew this was a special car, and definitely wanted to hang on to it and do a full restoration. George started the restoration in 2006 and it took 2 years to restore. The paint was done by Custom Cars Unlimited of LaGrange, Illinois, and he did the rest of the assembly. The car was completed in August, 2008. Upon completion the car was entered into three shows. The results were amazing where it garnered status and praise from attendees and judges. The first was The Forge in Kingsport, Tennessee in September, 2008. The next show was Chevy Vettefest in October 2008 where we won a Gold Spinner and the Top Gun Award. Most recently, it was in World of Wheels in Chicago in where we won Best in Class, Outstanding Restored, Outstanding Restored Engine, and Outstanding Restored Paint. The car attracted a lot of attention from those in the collector world for its rarity and stunning restoration and awards. Word had spread and a collector on the east coast was very persistent and regrettably George sold the prized car in 2009. When I acquired the RS/COPO in the history write- up, you’ll note that I referred to the cars ( Black RS/Z and Black RS/COPO) as the Dynamic Duo, however I alluded to a third car on the horizon, which I referred to as the Trifecta. This car had always been on my wish list and completes my goal of owning the Trifecta. As I delve into the cars past history and learn more I will update this post. World of Wheels Show Chevy Vettefest THE TRIFECTA Below is a brief summary of how I came to own each car RS/Z28 I purchased my first black car on June 19, 1999 a RS/Z with ivory houndstooth interior. I had been pursuing my original hugger orange RS/Z for 13 years but at the time the owner would not sell it, which is how I ended up with this car (BTW on 12/7/2009 I finally took ownership back of my first muscle car). The black car was purchased as a project that had been painted, but not up to concours standards. So a full restoration was undertaken. Last year I was approached about trading a couple of my unrestored cars, and initially thought the trade back to me included a survivor COPO car. Well we were on the wrong page and what was offered back was a stunning restored RS/COPO which took me a few moments to digest. In the end I knew it was a great car and this opportunity was only possible via a trade. Link: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthrea...9-rs#Post599975 RS/SS L78 Convertible This was the only planned purchase of any of my black cars. When I acquired the RS/COPO in the write up, you’ll note that I referred to the cars as the Dynamic Duo, however I alluded to a third car on the horizon, which I referred to as the Trifecta. It is an honor to be the caretaker for these cars, and looking back if I had the opportunity to purchase three 1969 Camaros, well these would be it and wouldn’t change a thing. A lot of credit goes to the original owners who optioned these so tastefully, the restorers who meticulously assembled the cars and previous caretakers who maintained the cars and helped me put this collection together. A big thank you goes to my supportive wife who puts up with me and my passion for collecting cars.
