Default 1115263 ti coil question

Has anyone else seen these little holes by the threaded studs on a 263 coil? I know they reproduced these, but I never did take a good look at them. What were they for?

More accurately, the holes catch tabs on the small stamped steel guide plates that locate under the wire clips. The guide plates look to be cad plated.

Not all of the coils that had the holes used the metal pieces with the tabs that fit into the holes. I can't pin down when the change occurred, but the type used on late 60's cars didn't have the tab shown in this picture.
