There used to be a big oak tree at the starting line of one of the drag strips here. He came one year and killed half that tree. Came back the next year and killed the other half.

There used to be a potato field across the road from the track at Stanton (aka "McBrides", aka "Central Michigan Dragway" aka "Mid Michigan Motorplex"). Behind the starting line was a picket fence. He came up one year and blew all the pickets into the potato field across the road.

They fixed the fence by nailing the pickets to the other side of the posts.

When I was in HS, I read an article on Art and one of the original Green Monsters, about how he controlled the electrically operated clutch using a generator. When the voltage dropped or rose, it made the clutch either lock up or slip. The first slipper clutch. The guy was a backyard genius.
