A true Nascar legend. We will never see the likes of these past and present owners and drivers who have passed and recently retired drivers, owners and crew chiefs. Jr was a very successful driver and owner.

They did an episode on Americana on him, good guy. Good episode, he still had his Ford, showed adding carbs to the flatheads. How these guys made parts that weren’t available to hop up these cars.
I think it was pres Regan pardoned him so he could get into the NASCAR hall of fame. I’m sure there was shine at the Whitehouse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMhiBriuJ8o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXE6re6ZHjA Last edited by Burd; 12-21-2019 at 02:02 PM. |

What I read about him was he had a sixth sense for all things mechanical and just “ figured stuff out”.

In so many ways, JJ not just represented but truly was the epitome of real stock car racing and its history. RIP Junior Johnson. ~ Pete '

Rest in peace, Junior. A true NASCAR legend. A real moonshine runner, NASCAR driver, and then an owner. Back when NASCAR was the most followed auto racing in the USA. I don't remember Junior as a driver, only as an owner. Correct me if I'm wrong; the old memory isn't what it used to be. He owned the number 11 Holly Farms Chevrolet Monte Carlo that Cale Yarborough drove to more than a few racing wins and season championships during the heyday of NASCAR.
