Re: Couldn't resist today...
You know Jake, Nassau Blue just might be the prettiest color Chevy had in '62. I can remember when you hardly ever saw one, then within the last 10 years or so, they seemed to pop up here and there. (AND they're almost ALL 409 cars!)
I hope to have mine out by the end of this year. Verne : Cousin Eddy picked out this color when he ordered the car from Brigance Chevrolet. It was in November of '61. I was there with him and his father, and every time the salesman asked my uncle what option he wanted, he would point to Cousin Eddy and say, "whatever the kid wants"! The car was built in Janesville, the third week of January, and delivered to him in February. The first time we saw it, I almost fell to the ground--it was that beautiful! Cousin Eddy never waivered--the first time he saw that color he said, "My 409 will be that color, I'll call it the Blue Devil"! |

His father bought the car for him when he was still 16 but wouldn't let him get the 2x4 engine, "just" the 380hp. But before the end of '62 he converted it to 2x4s and it stayed that way all its life. Verne |

Re: Couldn't resist today...
----If only all you guys could have been there with us the day this piece of history was picked up from Cousin Eddies house. You would collectively say "no way these two cars can be the same car (other than the color). The 1st transformation that took place mainly in Jakes garage was remarkable. Other people have had their hands on the 409 in between Jakes ownership but everybody loved on the old war horse, and only made it better. Now, back in Jakes hands its gotten better yet! Its a tribute not only to Jake but all who have owned it. Of all the serendipitous stories I have ever heard on this sight, this is the best, IMHO.......Bill S

Re: Couldn't resist today...
I love the history of this car. Local, hard-running 409's like this are the reason for creating the 409 legend that everybody still remembers!

Re: Couldn't resist today...
Bill- Thanks for all the accolades. It's amazing to me that this old street/strip racer even survived at all. The fact that there were seven owners (including me -twice) that have owned this car, and no one crashed it in all those years, is incredible. It has never been burned, wrecked, customized, made into a low rider, stayed most of it's life in Illinois (except when it went to California for 5 years) and still survived, is amazing. It was drag raced, a daily driver, made into a serious drag racer, stored away and forgotten for 10 years, brought back to life twice, and used up 5 -409 engines! While researching the car, I talked to every owner, and asked them what was the attraction to this car. Each one said that there was something magical, mysterious about this car that made them want to make it better, and each one admitted that they ran the car as hard as they wanted, and it never failed to satisfy. Our sons, and grandson helped us make it what it is today. Every car show we attend, it draws out people and comments like no car I have ever owned. People take pictures of it, and every one wants to hear the "Cuzineddy" stories. This year our grandson will learn to drive a stick shift car, and I'm proud to say this will be the car he will learn on!! What a history--and this saga will continue long after I'm gone.
