Default Gordon Lightfoot

A Canadian icon dead at 84. So many great songs, so many memories. My favorite being The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I took Annie up to Duluth when we were dating and walked her out to the end of the pier just as a large ship was coming in. It was the Arthur M. Anderson and it sent chills down my spine. God speed Gordon.

Gordon wrote that song and brought it into the recording studio. His band had never heard it.He passed it around and what you hear on the record is the first take! They recorded a few more takes but decided that the first was the best! Great documentary on his life from 2019: If You Could Read My Mind.

Race among the Ruins is a great song.

Triangle is another.

So many great songs other than the radio hits. A powerful singer. Gonna put on Gordon’s Gold Volume II and jam out! Well, jam out as much as you can to folk music.

Tailwinds and blue sky……

Cheers
Dave

Gordon was involved with Cathy Smith and wrote that song directed to her after their breakup. She was with John Belushi the night he overdosed and died.

I do like a few of his songs mentioned, but his wasn't really my style. His tribute to the lost crew of the Fitzgerald will stand forever, as a memorial of the sinking.
Rest in peace

Saw him a few times over the years, first was ‘79 when I lived in Yellowknife NWT, not in concert but while he was in town on a canoe trip w/ his one of his friends.
Otherwise, I enjoyed a few of his shows here in Peterboro’ ON also about five years ago, he was back again donating some of his canoes to the Canadian Canoe Museum which will be on display in the New facility due to open later this year.
RIP
~ Pete

Gordon went on quite a few canoe trips.Apparently it helped him overcome his addiction to alcohol. He lived life in tha fast lane for quite a few years. His parties at his mansion in Rosedale were legendary.
