Default 1968 Chevrolet SS427 L72/4sp, one family owned #’s, docs on BaT

The family has decided to sell Mom’s L72 and I’ve put it on Bring A Trailer for them. Perfectly optioned when new in Matador Red on Black with 425hp 427, 4 speed, F41 suspension, Z24 SS427 package, Z03 bucket seat trim, tilt steering, vinyl top, etc. Original dealer paperwork, Protect O Plate. Engine block, transmission, and rearend stampings all match POP. Original block, exhaust manifolds (smog removed, holes plugged), valve covers and 1100814 37A distributor dated 8A9. Correct 1111170 distributor with later 4C29 date code. Heads are now ‘66 3872702 oval ports with Dec ‘65 casting dates topped by a Holley Street Dominator manifold. Carb is a ‘69 spec 4346 Holley with later 4 digit code. Transmission is an M21 stamped P8A11 and the rearend is a 12 bolt 3.55 posi stamped DK215G1.

Body and frame are solid, but the rear fender lips must have gotten loaded with sand or mud and rusted, and the subsequent cut and patch work is kind of clumsy. I would plan to find and install quarters. The front fenders and floor, trunk floor, etc, are all very solid and should restore fine.

Just 1,778 SS427’s (Z24 package) were built in 1968, and only 568 L72’s were put into full size Chevrolets across all body styles and trim. At the risk of being hyperbolic, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone. Auction ends Monday October 10th.

Rick-yep, that’s when I first took a picture of it in 2020 parked in front of the original owners house while she was still with us.

We came to an agreement with the high bidder after the auction and the car is going to Minnesota-thanks quickbowtie! He is a member here on Yenko.net so with any luck we will see updates here in the future.
