Always wondered, was the L78 and LS6 available at the same time.?

No,they cancelled the L-78 early on as Chevrolet didn't want two solid lifter engines in their line up,as well as they wanted to hype the new 454's.
But there was a very slight overlap between the two.

I think I’ve even seen documented where someone ordered an L78 and they were sent an LS6 instead...nice upgrade

Oh, and there was one we knew of that that happened and it was so early in the changeover process that it came with an LS6 (or LS5 if the hydraulic lower hp option was ordered, but I think it was the L78 ordered) but had 396 emblems : )

How cools is that!? And yes, there were docs showing where the dealer swapped out the emblems to 454 to actually fix the mistake.

Good ol' Rolla, Missouri! Very nicely optioned '70 with the Wide-Ratio M20 & a 4.10 rear screw . . . this is a fun car to drive, just make sure it's pointed straight!

Maybe old news to you 'Velle guys but I'd love to hear more about these circumstances, especially of factory 454 cars shipped w/ 396 emblems.
