Default Nice #s '74 Z/28

Here's a color combo you don't see very often - beige over tan. Wish it were a 4-speed but still a very nice ride.

Unfortunately it does have a state-issued VIN which will affect the value....

Is the value affected because the story may not be the real reason or hard to prove? Just curious and a bit of a rookie on these things.

Looks like it's mostly there. A few changes/additions made during the "retso". Z emblems and the stripe package were never paired together. It came with one or the other, not both. Wheel color changed and it looks like they actually painted the console which it shouldn't be. Interesting thing is it looks like they molded a set of gauges into the console where a glove pocket is. Maybe that's why they opted to paint it. Parts of the dash were painted too, but the silver accents weren't reapplied.

Why would the VIN plate be removed in the first place during the resto?
Two things I never do is remove the trim tag and VIN plate.

I would guess it's a case of inexperience. There were 2 VIN markings on '74s. The plate that's affixed to the dash and a sticker with the manufacture month/year and VIN number in the door jamb. I could see the sticker being peeled off for painting (I would never do it), but removing the riveted dash plate as well?? The cowl tag, well they're screwed on with hex/philips head screws, easy to pop on and off.

I’ve been told the aluminum Trim Tag and VIN tag can be corroded by the chemicals in a paint strip dip. They are removed for this reason.
