'72 camaro trim tag, hand stamped from factory????
check out this trim tag on a 72 basket case I looked at, I posted over at Nasty Z but no-one wants to comment on it.
looks like it was hand stamped after the tag was on the car and its right where they normally stamp the cars option code. car is manual steer and manual disc brakes with a 5k redline, just want to check in and make sure I am not walking away from a cool heap, could you get manual disc brakes in 72??? it sure looks like a factory install. Darren you ready to come out of the closet yet....hmmmm. Bud. |

Re: '72 camaro trim tag, hand stamped from factory????
I can not say whether they did back then or not. But I do know this because I build HUMMERS for GM. If we stamp a bad vin into a frame or block, we either x it out and restamp with the automatic vin stamp machine, or we hand punch the correct digits/letters in.
Hope this helps some. I have never seen an old trim tag like the one you have, but I suppose it is possible. |

Re: '72 camaro trim tag, hand stamped from factory????
16 isn't part of a paint or interior code nor an RPO code. I am going to bet you don't hear anything on this. Kinda like that backwards "EE" (something backwards anyway) stamp on the 69 Z tag a while back. That went pretty much unresolved. Your probably the first to find such a stamp.
