Restored Keystone wheels with success
I've found some skinny Keystone wheels, and held on to them, hoping to get a decent rear set I can use. Turns out, if you have the burden of knowing the difference between original ones, vs the current- new offerings... We'll they aren't as easy to come by as you would hope.
I with my early Chevelle, and my sister's Nova- a 15x8 is all they can take. So I bought some flaking 15x10 and had they cut apart, restored and used a new barrel to create a 15x8 with 5.25" offset. So far, I am happy with the results. |

Last year I picked up an old, original set.. I like these wheels. You don't see them often.. Rich

1st, congrats Paul. You have special, unique gifts and abilities. I am amazed and impressed just about every time you post! A brief tutorial on “original” vs “current, new” would be helpful? When you say, “...current , new...”, when did that style begin or how new is new?

Those are some nice wheels. They turned out great. I had Keystone Classics on my '67 SS396 Chevelle back in the early '80s. They looked good on that car.

This is what I know to be the earliest. I think they are Keystone Kustomags. The centers were not chromed. Some of the earliest center caps were just a script "K". Around 1968 the Kustomags Klassic was the name given to the chromed center wheel. The center cap had a block "K" with Keystone in small lettering under it. A very popular wheel in the super stock class. The third version, the Keystone Classic (or Klassic) has the spokes united with a thin ring and a tapered center cap. They mat have been made in direct lug pattern, but most of what you see is uni-lug. This is very similar to what Cragar offers, which is the picture I posted.
