1968 Corvette - Son Joins The Hobby
After a couple of years of hunting for the right car, my son opted to pull the trigger on this 1968 Corvette Convertible, L79 4 speed. Two owner car from Texas, still wearing it's really sunbaked original laquer paint and lots of original components (including the Packard plug wires).
He really wanted a 1970 SS Chevelle, but market forces prevented that from happening. Hard to believe that he could get his hands on a Vette convertible for significantly less than a comparable 1970 SS Chevelle, but he's comfortable with the idea of waiting for 10-15 years to get the right Chevelle. In the meantime, we have a winter to fluff this baby up for next summer. Ought to be fun learning to drive a four speed in this one Will share more pics and likely have lots of questions as we get into this one. Love that Vette, congratulations. C3's are ridiculously undervalued, and the chrome bumper ones are some of the best looking cars ever made in my opinion.

Re: 1968 Corvette - Son Joins The Hobby

Awesome! My dad and I took this wreck which was off the frame and in boxes in 2001-2002 and slapped it together right before my prom. 350, 4 speed, posi and car went 13.20's at 106. Really fun car until I rear ended someone with it. I still have it, gonna "fix er up someday!". I hope your son has as much fun with his as I did with mine!

I agree 100%. Congrats! I love Corvette Bronze. Looks killer with the C08 vinyl covered hardtop. What color is the interior Black, Tobacco or Dark Orange? Tobacco or Dark Orange interior looks amazing with Corvette Bronze. |

....
.... Your son may want to check out this website L79 Registry .... Corvette Bronze is a great color for that corvette. .... remember ..."Real corvettes have CHROME Bumpers !" |

That's cool Blair. Not much better than a father/son project like that. Memories that will last forever.

Re: 1968 Corvette - Son Joins The Hobby
Thanks for all the kind words. The car has the Dark Orange interior, with Dark Orange Carpet (ought to be sharp when cleaned up). Car also has 3.36 posi and the Black vinyl hardtop. The only unfortunate things missing are the AG Rally Wheels (wears AZ wheels today), 219 Rochester carb (apparently a real trick to find), AC fuel pump and the original master cylinder.
Since the car was not running when we picked it up, and hasn't run in 10 years, we're goin to dump all the fluids and replace all of the rubber hoses and lines. Also going to drop the tank and clean it out - Hoping to find the tank sticker . So far we've only had a couple of hours to crawl all over the car, pulling every number we can find and logging them into a master sheet. He's taken a ton of pictures and will probably have to get his own log-in so he can share more. This is just the proud father spilling the beans on his most exciting Christmas (ever). Blair |
Re: 1968 Corvette - Son Joins The Hobby
Hopefully when you drop the tank the original tank sticker is still there and legible if it still retains the original tank. Depending on how correct your son wants the car these cars look much better with the 1969 and up corvette 15x8 (AZ) rally wheels then the original 15x7 (AG) corvette rally wheels.
