70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
When the car arrived, I noticed that the turn signals did not work. I found an orange/cream pigtailed wire in the trunk that was not connected. I connected it and the turn signals started to work although neither green indicator in the instrument cluster showed either light as working---that's when the real problems started!!
Now, the turn signals do not work and the running lights ( all 4, front and rear) stay continuously "ON". I had to disconnect the battery to keep it from going dead. Ideas? Help! Rick |
Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
Have you tried pulling the flasher to see if it breaks connection?
|
Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
I pulled both the ER and turn signal flasher relays/pods--no difference. Lights still on. I also pulled the entire headlight switch and the lights stayed on!

I also pulled out the ER flasher on the steering column--ER flasher did not work and the running lights all stayed on!

Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
Did you disconnect the pigtail? If not, you have picked up a hot wire in that connection.

Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
I disconnected the pigtail with no change, even after disconnecting the battery and waiting 5 minutes before reconnecting it.

Just did, Taz.
I'm grateful for all the assistance! Rick PS: Horns inop. Maybe the wiring harness attached to the steering column? Testing it? |
Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
As I indicated before -- check that connector on the column under dash ... if the car came from the "Land Of A Thousand Lakes" it can get pretty humid up there. GREEN CRAB/CORROSION on connectors. TAZ

Re: 70 Yenko Electrical issues--Help!!
I separated the two parts of the wring harness that is mounted to the steering column.. I used a little fine grit sandpaper on the exposed metal tangs and then sprayed both parts with electrical cleaner. Same problem. No green indicator lights on the instrument cluster for either turn signal indicators or ER flashers.
Next, when I am not so sore from lying upside down, under the dash, for prolonged periods of time, I will check the indicator light bulbs themselves. Sure appreciate the help. |
