Warranty replacement LS6 454, WIW

Warranty replacement LS6 454 /450 hp

Installed in a car in 1971 and has less than 10,000 miles. all stock long block with aftermarket intake and holley carb. Runs fine, doesn't smoke, good compression.

CRR code with May 22 Pad date and April 11 cast date. "512" Block casting

Need to sell for customer. What is it worth?

luzl78 09-21-2017 11:28 PM

$6,000. Probably more for someone with a original ls6 car with no motor but you know that already. Does it have 026 or 990 heads?

Stefano 09-22-2017 01:23 AM

I thought it had 291s.

SuperNovaSS 09-22-2017 02:22 AM

It should have 291 heads. I would think a good runner would bring 5k.

$5K is right on the money for a fair price.

Wouldn't a warranty engine be a CE engine?

All the later CRR engines I have had have come out of boats. I'm not saying that is the case with this one but I have had quite a few and they were original to flat bottom fresh water boats. I think a complete crate engine could have also had a CRR code.

The warranty replacement engines which were built and coded as such during the model year had the pad code. Over the counter Crate engines / Chevy Engines with the CE were much more common.

This is why I had thought this engine would have more value. I would think a good running CE 512 4 bolt with 291s and a 1970 date code would be worth $5,000.00.

Thanks for the input.

A great many LS6 OVER THE COUNTER purchased engines had CRR code

I suspect a correct coded '1970' block is wirth all the $$. being a 71 block makes it almost equal to a CE... A buddy of mine has an LS-6 and says he would rather have a CE, because a correct over the counter warranty block would be CE..and a 71 CRR probaqbly is from something other than a chevelle.
