R59 Date Code Deciphering
2 Attachment(s)
Used to know these codes. Little help? J71.....................................10
Got to be in the mid 70s based on warranty sticker dates. |
Sept 1977 built at the Anderson Indiana plant. It was not assembly line because it was shipped dry, so it was a replacement battery.

Got it Steve. Thanks - figured you’ve seen a few of these. How do these score in judging relative to the repro batteries?
|
As Steve referenced, and to add, that's not the number 1 after the letter J,but the letter I for the Battery plant code.
Some Delco plant codes I've recorded: I=Muncie,Ind. C=Anaheim Ca. G=Fitzgerald,Ga. K=Olathe,Ks. N=New Brunswick,N.J. R=Korea Z=Oshawa,Canada The Letter I was not used to identify the Month, but it was for the Assembly Plant. 10 is the day this battery was made. |

Ah, love the details Rick - thanks. The casing at the bottom states that the battery was made at the Anderson Indiana plant - is that in Muncie? So, if this stamping is near the bottom of the case, why is there a code with the same info on top of the case? |
Anderson Ind. is their production plant where they produced the battery casing.
Muncie Ind. is where all the parts came together to make it a working battery. |
Thanks Rick.
