Dated ZL-1 block on FB

Saw this on FB.. may have been posted before. May be a member ?
This guy has a few zl-1 blocks and he has posted prior. This block seems like it would line up perfect for a real car. Surprised no one has bought it. My original 052 block was #129 dated 1/29/69 (if I recall correctly). 02D cowl tag on the car. This block is #131 dated 3 days later. I wonder if it could be a block from real car with VIN decked. https://www.facebook.com/share/9sUQo...ibextid=79PoIi |
Had that looks like a Yenko stamp under the timing cover and has pressin freeze plug bosses instead of production screw in plugs. The date looks interesting to me.

I agree with Jason regarding the date characters. Maybe William could comment.

Arrugh!
It's been 24 hours, and I have managed bite my tongue. Over the 43 years or so of chasing ZL-1 info, I have seen many blocks and complete engines. I have never seen a casting date/sequence number that looked anything like that. That spans one of the earliest Winters castings [4] to one of the last [587]. I have been keeping a log of the info; so did Bill Porterfield. Got a copy of his information recently and added it to mine. Suprise, casting #131 was already in the log with a date of 2 5 69. And yes, it was built up as a production ML code engine and installed in one of the cars. Even if I didn't know that, four earlier castings have later dates. |
So this block came from the factory in one of the 69 cars!

Here is an example of a March and January date I have here. As you can see, the January date, although hard to make out, is the smaller format. The March is the larger format.

The block in question also does not have the “W” in the snowflake showing it was cast at a different foundry.
