The ZR-1 Corvette, and a multitude of tuner cars with 700+ horsepower, barely hit 11's (or perhaps a 10 second pass with perfect conditions, traction, and a pro driver), and the 1000 hp Bugatti Veyron can crack a low 10-second et....but 8's? The Mustang would need 1000+ horsepower (probably a turbo, or a supercharger and a heck of a lot of nitrous), and a chassis setup for drag racing.
Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see evidence of an 8-second Mustang straight from-the-factory, I'm just looking for a link to read about them... </div></div>
Nah, just the blower will do it. John Mihovetz over at Accufab recently cracked 2600 horsepower with a set of factory "c" heads and a single turbo. The tight bore spacing on these engines precludes them from being powerhouses in n/a form, but they respond to boost like no other engine.
But a lot of it is in the suspension. I've seen cars with 550 rwhp run 9s, and cars with 1200 rwhp struggle to go 10s.
