I think there were 4475 built. James [/ QUOTE ] My standard response is, "And about 6000 of those still exist."

Which is why I am a Ford/dodge guy owning only one Camaro with a bullit proof history. Really a tragedy about the lack of factory docs and lack of a defining letter in the VIN on the Chevy's. Clearly Chevy's are by a wide margin the best muscle cars ever built and like you say 6000 LS6s out there. I would have been buying Chevy's since the mid 80s if I could more easily document them. Seems like every single camaro or chevelle for sale now has the obligatory build sheet, protecto plate, matching numbers and other forged stamped BS.

The Chevys do require more effort to verify but in most cases there are known cars with docs. I wouldn't buy a Chevy or Olds without solid paper. There's really a wealth of info on this site to help find a REAL car. Unfortunate they don't all have GM Canads docs.

Even on the Mopars and Fords it's important to have supporting docs. More than a few have been faked. I bought a W code ( single four 427 ) Cyclone at B-J in '91 that turned out to be a fake. Repopped vin tag, stamped rad support and restamped inner fenders. It took awhile to uncover the deception. This was before the Marti report was available I believe.

Trouble with Chevy paper is their are a group of folks printing all the Chevy docs you could ask for. They will even age it for you and some of it is so good it fools the experts. Marti report and Pontiac historical society really take a lot of the guesswork out of it. But now even very good phony PHS docs are available that can't be discerned from real upon a visual examination until verified back at PHS.

That is outstanding advice Johhny HP your preaching to the choir. Ever since Jim M. told me about the high quality bogus PHS docs I always get a fresh set. Best money ever spent.
