Default 4-piston calipers brakes vs. stardard disc brake

I have 4-pistons caliper brake set-up on my 68 nova ;looking to convert my other 68 nova ss 396 (was original a 350/295 hp car) over from the front drum brakes to disc.any major diffence in stoppping or whatever as comparing the four caliper piston set-up to stardard disc brake set-up.chris

somebody has got to have an opinion out there?wondering if it was worth the extra doe to spend the money on the 4-piston front brake calipers and rotors.Chris

My 2-cents,

The single pistons stop better, firmer pedal, have better rotor - brake pad selection and less problems. The repo rotors are not as good and the brake pad choices are either organic or a speciality pad made by Hawk which will eat the repo rotors. I would convert to the 69 single pistons, easy to get parts, won't leak, and are really trouble free.

One more opionion.

4 piston set up slightly better when brand new, but subject to problems down the road. Piston seal rides on the bore of the caliper, which is prone to corrosion. How much better, when brand new? Unless you are running on a race track, you would never know.

Single piston seals on the piston surface, less likely to corrode, works just fine, and for a street car, I doubt there is anyone out there that can tell a difference from behind the wheel.

+1 on everything Matt said re: parts & maintenance etc.
