I know you asked for smaller 2-3 car haulers but if you haven't tried Reliable yet I would defintitely give them a shot. We just had them haul back a car from LA to suburban Chicago last month and would hire them again. We solicited several quotes from all size carriers and in addition to being the most competitive they were very accomodating with our schedule as we were trying to coordinate a pick up in LA at a specific time during an overnight weekend trip out to finalize the deal. We had direct access to the driver at all times via cell phone and everything went very smoothly.

I know that Reliable is a forum sponsor, no doubt there good reputation is well earned. I do use Reliable from time to time.

Some of my customers prefer smaller carriers who use single floor trailers that don't stack cars three up on top of three down. Also, smaller carriers are more likely to load and offload only once- delivering door to door. Larger carriers tend to off-load cars to a clearing warehouse and load them again to get them to their final destination. This increases the total time the car is in transit. I have had items inside cars go missing, as well as cars become damaged with this sort of arrangement. Smaller carriers can make dedicated runs, load and off load once, and minimize the opportunities for damage. While not always the cheapest way to transport, many of my customers prefer smaller professional outfits.
