Default SCR14

As many of you know, Gateway International Raceway was closed shortly after SCR13, and is now for sale.

Through the years, and even more so the last few months, we have had several inquires from facilities and organizations wanting to host the SCR, but until the closing of GIR, we felt Collinsville was the best fit for the SCR. With the closing of GIR, we were faced with the reality of rethinking how we do things.

Though it has taken longer then we had hoped to decide upon such a facility, we are very excited to say Route 66 Raceway will be the location for SCR14. Friday July 29th, 2011. More details to follow as we finalize things.

For those not familiar with Route 66 Raceway, it is part of the Chicagoland Speedway Properties, located in Joliet, IL, Southwest of Chicago. Their facilities are second to none, hosting both NASCAR and NHRA events.

Racing, showing, or just hanging out with friends, I hope everyone will support SCR14, making it the best one yet.

Awesome, and Congrats on securing an outstanding facility.

For anyone who hasn't been to there, I suggest putting the big red X on your calendar now. All aspects of this Motorsports Park are fantastic and state of the art.

Great to hear that the SCR tradition continues!

Is racing and the show all on same day? Is show outside at track?

At this point not all of the details have been worked out. Being that we are basically starting over, we are looking at all of the various options, such as what’s available, making everything as user friendly as possible, what the club can afford, etc. We are to meet with their staff in a couple of weeks to iron out more details. One of several options is doing something at the track on Saturday/Sunday, as they have offered us track time both days.

We have not ruled out an indoor show, but right now we are looking at a meet and greet at the hotel on Thursday, then do everything (show, race, hang out, etc) at the track on Friday, starting mid to late morning and going to late evening. Figure a later start time might help some of members who "meet and greet" a little too much on Thursday. Also, should be a tad cooler at night, and for anyone who has never raced at night, at a major track, really neat.

Also, although our club, website and the SCR was founded to preserve and promote Chevrolet supercars, just as the club and website now embrace all makes and models of supercars, we would like to see the SCR do the same, a spirited, but friendly competition. MCACN at the track.

As always, suggestions and comments welcome.
