Re: Next Years Power Tour Car
Got the car back together today and another piece of the puzzle was solved........When I originally put the car together with the complete 4 wheel disc brake system from CPP......I had nothing but problems trying to get the rear Parking Brake/Disc (85 Seville calipers) to function......just couldn't get them to work correctly (there is a ratcheting mechanism that is built into the piston and when the E-Brakes are applied....It automatically keeps everything adjusted and the mechanical function serves as the E-brake) I tried everything and ended up cutting and modifying the pull cable bracket to get a basic function of the E-Brake as the pads were loose and the ratchet function did nothing to tighten them up............
So.......while everything was apart, I decided to put Ceramic brake pads on the car as there was quite a bit of brake dust with the CPP pads....The fronts went right in.....but I was concerned about the issues I had in the past with the rears........So......As I was installing them, I noticed that they were about 3/32" thicker per pad than the pads I took out.....Hummm!!!......as I was putting everything back together it was becoming very clear why I had all those issues before....the New pads supplied with the kit were actually thinner than they should have been and they were at the limits of the ratchet piston out adjustment at that point.......Duhhh!!!......There was another person in the area that was going thru the same problems at the same time I was doing mine....we both figured we didn't know what we were doing and never questioned the pads as supplied with the kit.......With the thicker pads everything works perfectly.............Another Lesson .......with Graduation papers this time.....LOL.....( The other guy stopped trying to get them to work and put the drums back on.....I just called him and told him what the problem was.......Boy!!.....Am I smart!!!!)
