1971 Grumpy Nova?
This was sent to me today. It's in Milwaukee's Craigslist.
A Grumpy Story My loss is your gain, this 71 Nova that was rumored to once be owned by Grumpy Jenkins has to go. I started stripping the car down to do a total restoration but I ran out of time and space. What you get is a rolling body with what you see in the pictures. No motor or trans. I do have a hood, grille, bumpers, etc... except the windshield, that didn't exactly come out of the car intact. This awesome piece of drag race history can be yours for the low price of $8,600! And I do have to throw in the o.b.o. thing. Obviously this spectacular car will need a little work. It appears that somebody did some repairs awhile ago. The left fender was replaced and the left 1/4 panel has been worked a little. I heard that this damage was from Grumpy himself when he tagged the guardrail at the dragstrip in a match race against Ronnie Sox. Just to be clear, I do not have any actual proof that this car was owned by Grumpy, but my uncle's godfather heard this from his sisters husband who used to bag groceries at a store where Grumpy's mailman used to shop. Act fast! With this kind of history, and this blue light special price, this car won't last long here at all! |

Re: 1971 Grumpy Nova?
This must be the "lost" COPO 307 CX bs turbo 350 car Dickie Harold special ordered through Amon R Smith and had drop shipped to SRD race cars for Pro Stock upgrades until the "Vega" arrived and needing room, kicked this Nova outside unknowing the brakes were removed along with the special COPO 307 and hit off the hillside guard rail then hitting Mr.Sock's 318 Barracuda next door at the Texaco station waiting for an oil change.
Disturbed by what he just witnessed the 'Grumpy' Mr. Sock's took posession of the rolling stock Nova for damages incurred to his Matched color Plymouth. There, now you have 'the rest of the story' As my uncle's brother's sister told it to me and her name was Billy Jo Junkins... ..

Re: 1971 Grumpy Nova?
Damn ,
we missed it at Mecums' auction earlier this year (I mean the cigar ) and to think your Nova might be an offspring. or maybe the '71 was just unsprung..... Grumpy did say race cars, real ones should be white ! Is that documented proof enough ? Oh I howled reading the Craig's list ad....what a hoot !

"Real Close" ...you can see the outline of old gold leaf lettering and red remnants... along with yellow paint flakes below the springs on the garage floor.. acid flashbacks will aide better than a magnifying glass here. what a hoot

If you DNA test that cigar butt, it should clear up the ownership history!
