Thanks, MCACN is always a nice time. Always nice to catch up with friends there.
Wasn't sure what to expect showing up with the Vega lol. I was surprised at how many people related to having a Vega back in the 70's. |

Yep -- bought a new 71 Vega at Doc Stewart Chev in Clovis, NM. Drove it to WI -- put 96K on it, than my Dad wanted it so I gave it to him. Two things went bad -- the throwout bearing and the starter. NEVER had a problem with the engine as it always had proper MX -- accomplished when required. TAZ

I often wondered how those Vega 390 aluminum blocks got rebuilt if the bores needed to go over standard. The original bore was acid etched to expose the silicon so that the rings didn't wear against the soft aluminum matrix. Mark - do you know if re-etching was an option? Or was sleeving the only option?

If I remember right, there was a "lapping" process that was used after boring ... this lapping exposed the silicon material ... TAZ
