That's a great car at a great price, true survivor...but I can assure you that is NOT the car's original spare wheel and tire.

A 383 Challenger R/T was not available with either F60 tires OR a full size 15-inch spare. The correct tire size for a Challenger R/T 383 equipped with 15-inch wheels (which is incredibly rare in and of itself, they are normally 14-inch wheels) is E60 15.
Your car should have a collapsible spare or possibly a 14-inch full size spare. Your ad says "upgraded" to 15 inch wheels, so I guess it did indeed have 14s? Have you found a broadcast sheet for the car? What you have there is a combination of wheel and tire that is probably out of a B-Body: Roadrunner, GTX, Super Bee etc. and is worth about $1000-$1500 to the right person as it has the rare '450' steel wheel. ![]() OR F70-14 full size spare: ![]()

I vividly remember when my next door neighbor came home one day after trading his 70 Judge for an RT 440-4 speed, yellow w/ the side striping...I was about 12-13 years old....he took me for a ride... I instantly became a Mopar fan !!! this car with original paint is a sweet survivor !! GLWS !! |

</div></div> NO e-body Mopar originally equipped with 15-inch wheels was available with a full size 15-inch spare - only a collapsible. The trunks in them simply did not have the room for 15s. Further, if your car did have 14s on it and was equipped with the twin rear speaker option OR rear defogger you also had to have the collapsible spare -not a full size 14 spare as there was, again, no room.

The car was LA built 2nd week of Feb 1970, I can not find build sheet but I understand LA cars may have not had one. The 15 x 7 wheels are part #2944390 which I would think are original.
![]() ![]() ![]() </div></div> Without the sheet, there is no way to tell for sure what came on the car. But January 6th, 1970 (according to your wheel date there) certainly puts the wheels close enough to the car's "scheduled" production date of Feb 5th. Now when it comes to collapsible spares, there are stories of new Cuda/Challenger owners popping the trunk at the dealership and telling their salespeople to "get that s#*t out of the trunk of my new car and get me a real spare please!". To which some salesmen would respond by raiding another car on the lot to get a full size spare to toss in there. It happened. |

Man, cars don't get any drier. What is the number in white on the wheel well?

Cool - are front disc brakes pretty rare for a 383 car?
