That, my friend, appears to me to be an original factory "grind out" of the pad. When they made an error, the assembly line workers had access to what must have been a BIG grinder that would take the mistaken information off the pad and then hit the pad with the correct information. I have many, many in my files and they all have similarities. I would "embrace" this difference as I feel confident it is original.

If you order the Shipping Data Report, I wouldn't be surprised if this car was ordered by Hory Chevrolet in New York. They had a minimum order of 50 black 1973 Corvettes, one was owned by a good friend about 12 years ago.
