69 Z/28 Day II Project (Air Force Brat)

This Z/28 lost its motor back in 1974. In researching the car I've heard 2 different reports of it being the original 302 vs a built 327 that was reportedly scattered when the clutch exploded back in 74'. Depending which story was correct, maybe the old 302 is still out there? I know the transmission was said to be with the car in the mid-'80s but it was scavenged before the car was parked in 95'. In either case, this car is now getting a crisp solid roller small block that I built for another project but ended up keeping. It was broken in a couple of years ago with around 300 miles put on it and is now ready for some fun in the yellow Day 2 car. I'll keep looking for the original motor and should also share that I also have a line open on a dated DZ motor and hope to have something worked out on that later this spring.

In behind this built solid roller will be an AutoGear M23 build with 345 gears. This ratio includes an Italian made gearset with 1.000 (4th), 1.353 (3rd), 2.043 (2nd), and a 2.994 (1st). It should stand up nicely to the power this motor will make (approx 500 hp). In the rear is a strengthened original 12 bolt with a new Posi carrier and upgraded axles. Running 373 gears and multiplied by the 2.99 first gear, this car should launch like it has 5:13 gears out of the box, so it promises to be a fun little streetcar.
