Be aware that you must use a 1969 Camaro power steering pump, designed for variable-ratio steering. The service replacement variable ratio power steering gear was pn 3960246. It does not functionally interchange with anything; only application is the 1969 Camaro.

Chevrolet admonished against interchanging standard and VR steering components:

“The pump used on vehicles with variable ratio power steering provides increased fluid flow at higher pressure than the conventional pump. Consequently, the conventional pump and the pump used with the variable ratio system are not interchangeable. A new pump outlet hose is required on variable ratio power steering equipped cars.”
