Just like the Dodge and Plymouth WO cars for racing the NHRA dictated at least 50 be sold to qualify in their stock class. 1966 Olds W30 production was 54 for the same reason.
Were there equivalent makes from Chevrolet, Pontiac,Mercury,Buick for the same timeline. I know the ZL1 Camaro and 68 Hemi Dart fell under the same rules.
