Default '69 AMC Javelin, 390/4-sp, Big Bad Orange

Seems like a pretty solid deal for the $26k buy-it-now price. A lot of garbage for sale at this price point...but this looks to be a good one.

If anyone is interested in a little AMC information here you go.

In the description he lists the car as being numbers matching engine and rear, but the trans is just date coded to 68. There’s no such thing as numbers matching for 99% of AMC products. When the Federal government began requiring VIN’s stamped on major components in 1968 AMC petitioned the government basically saying they couldn’t afford to pay a UAW worker to do such a thing on the assembly line. They received a waiver exempting them from said requirements.

Two southern states(Alabama and Tennessee maybe? I forget I’m doing this off memory) had state level requirements for VIN’s but AMC left it up to the receiving dealer to actually stamp the major components per the law.

Basically with any AMC of the muscle car era there is no way to positively identify if a car has its as-assembled engine, trans, or rear. The engine has a tag attached to the passenger side valve cover. But they’re easily removed, lost, or changed around.

The car listed here is also a “Mod Package” Javelin. The roof spoiler, lower side molding(fake trendsetter exhaust) and a few other small touches were part of that. This car is NOT a “Go Package” car. Though to be fair to the seller he doesn’t list it as such. The Go Package would’ve had a Tach in the dash and fake hoodscoops on either side of the hood.

There’s no picture of the Door Data Tag which would say 3A for color, being a BBO car, though I see no reason in the pictures posted to doubt it’s a real BBO car. Big Bad color cars also got painted front and rear bumpers. Memos from the time show AMC really wanted to do eleastomeric bumpers like GM and Chrysler were starting to do, but couldn’t afford it. So they took their steel bumpers before chroming and painted them.

Now for the 26,000 dollar question. What it’s worth. AMC’s are funny with prices. A base 383 automatic 69 Dodge Super Bee is somehow worth more than this special color, special option package, 4 speed 390 Javelin. But AMC people(and I’m including myself in this) are by and large- cheap. I got into this stuff because comparatively to Mopar stuff you get a lot for your money. So ultimately the market will decide what it’s worth. But I don’t think it’ll hit the BIN price.

Sorry for the long, rambling post.
