Default Dealer Question

Hi guys. I've lurked here for a long time and decided I'd register. This is a really great site! I don't own any classic muscle yet, but I do have a white 1998 Z/28 that I enjoy the heck out of.

Now to the question... Back in April my Dad bought a 1969 427/390 Corvette from a gentleman in Kansas City. It is 99% original. Original paint, matching engine and trans. numbers, what appears to be the original spare, etc. Last week we dropped the gas tank and found the tank sticker. However, there was one problem... the upper left section of the sticker had been torn off. He searched the NCRS dealer data base, but this particular dealer wasn't listed. Maybe you guys could help us out. The zone number is "05" and the dealer number is "504." It was sold new in Kansas City, MO. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Alwyn, my brother actually posted pics of the car in the C3 section of teh Corvette Forum a while back. I poke around OT alot. My handle over there is DanTheVetteMan.

What would be the best method of removing surface rust from the tank? Dad wants to get the NCRS Survivor award, so he doesn't want to alter the originality of the tank. POR-15 or something like that? Dan

Daniel,
Try contacting Al Grenning for the dealer info, his database seems to be larger than what is available on the other sites. [email protected].
Also, Bloomington Gold awards Survivor status (I think they have a copyright on it). The NCRS equivilant is the Bowtie award.

Chris, thanks for the info. The Bowtie Award is the one Dad is after. Anyone have any suggestions for clearing up the rust on the tank? Dan

Daniel,
Regarding the tank, it would probably be best to contact Chuck Berge who is the 1968-72 NCRS National team leader and tech advisor. His contact info is in the front of every Corvette Restorer issue.
My guess would be that he tells you to reinstall it EXACTLY the same way it was when removed. Hope this helps.
