I have a Canon PowerShot S40 camera I purchased second-hand from a member over at TC a few years ago, and despite the fact that I'm certainly amongst the world's top 2% WORST photographers, it still manages to give me decent pictures.

No complaints what so ever other than this thing goes through a battery like the Cookie monster goes through Fig Newton's. I can get maybe 10-15 pictures or maybe 2 or 3 30-second video captures on a full charge before the "low battery" light comes on.

Where's a decent place online to pick up batteries for this thing?

I would say your camera has a problem with only getting 12 pics before the bats are dead. I used my Fuji S5100 for 4 days at B-J and only had to change the 4 AA bats once. Around 300 pics 1600x1200

I took around 800 pics at BJ and Pavillions and Dave's collection (basically Tuesday through Sunday)...and I replaced the batteries 3 times. Itook a fair amount of fill flash pictures, also.

I buy the batteries in bulk at Costco...so it's not really expensive. I haven't tried the rechargeable batteries yet....Hmmm

One other cool thing about the Fuji is that there are two digital viewfinders...one big square one on the back like most digital cameras have...but also a small one where the viewfinder on a normal 35mm SLR camera would be...I use the smaller one most often...it's more comfortable for me that way (I'm used to a 35mm SLR camera) and it uses less battery power that way. Those big viewfinder displays eat batteries like crazy...something else to consider when buying a camera

I use CASIO EX-S500, very slim camera. I have a chip card on over 1000 for storage, takes about 450-500 hi quality pics..

Rechargeable battery is included, and a docking station too charge, so you dont have to take the battery out, use the same station for transfer of pics too.

I have bought 3 of this cameras, after i bought mine, we use a lot of cameras at my company here, and everything is really self explaining.. 2" inch screen,

Cost me something like 530,- US with the battery, docking station, and memory card.

My Canon uses this re-chargeable battery. (thankfully the camera came with 2 of them).

I haven't purchased replacements yet because--

A) I don't know dookie about camera batteries (i.e. what to look for/what to avoid)

and

B) Not sure where to buy them (don't trust camera stores/Radio Shack salespeople).

Any other compact digital cameras out there with an equivalent SLR 28 mm wide angle lens?
