Eric,

Excellent write-up and presentation. My hat's off to you.

I think I've finally made my mind up about how to do that
proposed L-88 project. GAME?

Steve

Stop the presses!

The 496 dyno video has been rescued!!!

(long story, don't ask how/where it was hiding, you wouldn't believe me if I told you)

If you'd like to see the clip, click here. The link is at the bottom of the page.

(this was one of the early pulls before we got everything sorted out)

Eric

p.s.

I'll have another dyno video hosted on my website in the next day or so; I didn't have anything to do with this particular build, but the engine is so insanely cool I had to capture it on video. What is it?....well, I really don't wanna let the cat outt'a the bag just yet, but I will say that it'll knock your "SOHC"s off!

Old school ROCKS!!!!!

The factory stuff is very good on the 496. I had cast iron Square ports on my nova with the ls6 style intake and it made 490 to the tires. Switched over to brodix heads and a air gap and only picked up 40 rwhp but 80 lbft torque. Very nice write up.

Chris;

Thanks. I'll be adding quite a bit more info on my website on the Chevelle build as soon as I get caught up on my carb work and have some time to work on the Chevelle again. I have the new oil pan in now, but I haven't even had time to install it yet. As soon as that's wrapped up, the engine & trans go in. The dash & wiring will be next on the "to do" list.

Jeff;

Thanks. I've only scratched the surface on this build in regards to what these factory parts are capable of. There's still significant power left waiting on the table, but we'll get to some of that when the project enters the 2nd phase of its build. Along those lines, I'm not taking this build to the "extremes" as I've done in the past; this is all about showcasing how well these factory parts can work with only minor modifications when the overall combination is dialed in.

Very nice write-up, Eric. Interesting that "Ohio George" did the dyno runs. His shop did a rebuild on my 69 COPO Camaro's motor back in 1977 and they are still at 716 Brantly Ave in Dayton, OH !
